International Partners

EFAD has established regular dialogues with organisations active at an international level in the audiovisual sector.

Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN)

AFAN was formed during Cannes Film Festival 2023, initiated by the Korean Film Council, to bring like-minded national film agencies together to enhance current partnerships and build more solid exchanges in Asia and beyond. AFAN again convened during the Busan International Film Festival 2023, where producer/ curator Lorna Tee was elected as the Secretary General for AFAN for a three year term.

Members of the newly forged Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN) comprise the Korean Film Council (KOFIC, South Korea), Indonesian Film Board (BPI, Indonesia), Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP, Philippines), National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS, Malaysia), Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA)/Singapore Film Commission (SFC, Singapore), Mongolian National Film Council (MNFC, Mongolia) and Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA, Taiwan).

The nascent organisation announced it aims to promote understanding, solidarity and cooperation between Asian film creators and communities to expand the reach of cultural diversity throughout the world.

The European Film Agency Directors Association (EFAD) and the Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN) met during the Cannes Film Festival to form a partnership to enhance the understanding and collaboration amongst the European and Asian national film agencies.

The partnership enables the 37 EFAD members and 7 AFAN members to discuss common grounds, exchange information and plans for further program for dialogue on subjects such as policy and regulations, the development of the film industry in both regions and addressing new media and challenges ahead.

Conferencia de Autoridades Audiovisuales y Cinematográficas de Iberoamérica (CAACI)

The Conference of Ibero-American Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities (CAACI) is an international organization of the Ibero-American regional scope specialized in audiovisual and cinematographic matters. It was created on 11 November 1989 through the signing of the Ibero-American Convention on Cinematographic Integration, with the participation of the highest audiovisual and cinematographic authorities of twenty-one countries.

EFAD and CAACI have launched a structured partnership in 2016. The Toulouse declaration adopted at the occasion of a high level meeting organised in March 2016 set outs the main priorities of this institutional cooperation. A joint co-development grant, called Dale! Award, was launched for the first time in 2016 and it is distributed in the framework of the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Regular meetings were organised to discuss coproduction and distribution issues. A common statement on "The importance of the promotion and preservation of film diversity and territoriality, in light of the digital challenges" was also adopted in 2017. The last meeting was organised during the Berlin Film Festival in 2022, on co-production between EFAD and CAACI members.

CAACI's membership includes representatives from Latin American countries and three European countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, EL Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
