EFAD members movies awarded at the 72nd San Sebastian Film Festival

The 72nd edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival took place from 20 to 28 September, with around thirty movies supported by EFAD members.

Around 30 movies supported by EFAD members were selected for San Sebastian's different sections this year (Official Selection, New Directors, Horizontes Latinos, Zabaltegi-Tabakalera, Perlak and Nest). Among these, 12 were awarded during the closing ceremony on Saturday, 28 September.

In the Official Selection, six films were awarded:

  • Tardes de Soledad by Albert Serra (Spain, France, Portugal), supported by ICAA and CNC, received the Golden Shell for Best Film, the Feroz Zinemaldia 2024 Award and the Ateneo Guipuzcoano Award.
  • El llanto (The Wailing) by Pedro Martín-Calero (Spain, Argentina, France), supported by ICAA, received the Silver Shell for Best Director (ex aequo with On Falling)
  • On Falling by Laura Carreira (UK, Portugal), supported by BFI and ICA, received the Silver Shell for Best Director (ex aequo with El llanto) and the special mention for the RTVE - Another Look Award.
  • Quand vient l'automne (When Fall Is Coming) by François Ozon (France), supported by the CNC, received the Silver Shell for Best Supporting Performance and the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay
  • Los destellos (Glimmers) by Pilar Palomero (Spain), supported by ICAA, received the Silver Shell for Best Leading Performance and the Signis Award.
  • Soy Nevenka (I Am Nevenka) by Iciar Bollain (Spain), supported by ICAA, received the Euskadi Basque Country 2030 Agenda Award.

In the New Directors section, Bagger Drama by Piet Baumgartner (Switzerland), supported by the Swiss Federal Office for Culture, received the Kutxabank-New Directors Award.

In the Horizontes Latinos, El Jockey / Kill the Jockey by Luis Ortega (Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Denmark, USA), supported by INCAA and Danish Film Institute, won The Horizontes Award.
Reas by Lola Arias (Argentina, Germany, Switzerland), supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Culture, received the Sebastiane 2024 Award.

In the Perlak section, three films were awarded:

  • All We Imagine as Light by Payal Kapadia (France - India - Netherlands – Luxembourg), supported by CNC, Film Fund Luxembourg and Netherlands Film Fund, received the RTVE - Another Look Award.
  • Daney anjir maabed (The Seed of the Sacred Fig) by Mohammad Rasoulof(Iran, Germany, France), supported by the CNC, received the  City Of Donostia / San Sebastian Audience Award For Best European Film.
  • En fanfare (The Marching Band) by Emmanuel Courcol (France), supported by the CNC, received the City Of Donostia / San Sebastian Audience Award.
