EFAD goes with the Flow
On December 11, the film Flow, directed by Gints Zilbalodis, was screened at Cinema Galeries in Brussels, offering a unique opportunity to experience a remarkable piece of European cinema.
Introducing the film, Dita Rietuma, Director of the Latvian National Film Centre said: “Flow is the first Latvian full-length animation ever presented at the Cannes Film Festival. The film has rexently won the Best European Animated Film award by European film academy, and it is nominated for Lux prize by European Parliament. It highlights the richness and diversity of European cinema. A coproduction between Latvia, France, and Belgium, Flow underscores the power of collaboration across borders to create exceptional and thought-provoking works”.
The event was organized by the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the EU and Take Five, in partnership with EFAD, ARTE, and the LUX Audience Award, and it was held at Cinema Galeries.
Following the screening, the audience had the chance to engage with the director during a Q&A session, followed by a cocktail reception.
About the film
Flow the first Latvian full-length animation ever presented at the Cannes Film Festival. Produced by Dream Well Studio (LV), co-produced with Take Five (BE), Sacrebleu Productions (FR), the film was supported and financed by National Film Centre of Latvia, France - CNC, Belgium – Tax Shelter, ARTE France Cinema, RTBF , Canal+, Cine+, Region Sud . The film is nominated for the 2025 LUX Audience Award of the European Parliament, selected as the Latvian entry for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards, and winner of many prizes, such as the Jury Award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. This breathtaking animation follows a courageous black cat navigating a flooded, post-human world, where survival becomes a race against nature’s fury. A visually striking, wordless adventure that leaves a lasting impression.
