Malta Film Commission

The Malta Film Commission is a Government entity established by the Laws of Malta and acts as an advisory body responsible for the film sector on policies pertaining to the promotion, development and support of the audio-visual and film servicing industry.

The Malta Film Commission was set up in 2000 with the dual aim of supporting the local filmmaking community, while at the same time strengthening the film servicing sector. Over the past 17 years, the Film Commission’s efforts to support the local film industry resulted in various financing incentives, including a financing incentive programme in 2005, the successful Malta Film Fund in 2008, and a Co-Production fund in 2014.

Since 2013, the implementation of new strategy has led to an unprecedented growth in the local industry, with over 50 productions filmed in Malta resulting in more than €200 million in foreign direct investment being injected into Malta’s economy. Malta has a cash rebate financial incentive (rate of 40%).

The vision of the Commission is to create a world-class film industry in Malta that benefits the many and not just the few, while creating a sustainable film industry in Malta by training skilled professionals and investing in modern infrastructure.
