Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual
The Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual, I. P. - ICA, I. P., is a public institute integrated in the indirect administration of the State, endowed with administrative and financial autonomy and its own heritage, under the Ministry of Culture, whose mission is to support the development of cinematographic and audiovisual activities.
The ICA is the Portuguese national public film agency. It succeeds the Portuguese Film Institute, established in 1973.
Its main tasks are:
- implementing the financial support programmes for film and audiovisual writing and development, production, distribution, exhibition, international promotion, festivals, film literacy and film education;
- collecting data on film admissions and other statistics and research;
- participating in international bodies and organisations in the field of film policy and cooperation.
The ICA is financed through industry taxes, under the national film law.
